A Sailor in an Island - Inspirational Story

A sailor was stock in an island where he is the only survivor in a plane crash.

He made a hut for his shelter.

Day and night, he prays and waits for someone to rescue but no one came.

He stored food in the hut for his survival.

But one day, the hut burned to ashes and nothing was left on it.

He was so angry and said, "GOD, why have You done this to me!

The next morning, the rescuers came.

He asked: "How did you know I am here???

They replied: "We saw a smoke signal".......

Lesson:

"His plans are always greater than yours."

Cryptarithms - Math Tutorial

Cryptarithms
A cryptarithm is a type of mathematical puzzle in which the digits are replaced by symbols (typically letters of the alphabet).

For example:
9567 + 1085 = 10652
Can be represented by:
abcd + efgb = efcbh

Cryptarithm Rules
  • Numbers must not start with a zero.
  • Each letter represents a unique digit.
  • The solution is unique (unless otherwise stated).

 Sample 1:
Find the solution for ABCDE x 4 = EDCBA.

Step 1: Solving A
Possible A: 1,2
Why: 3-9 when multiply by 4 will produce 6 digit numbers.
Answer: A=2
Why: A must be even number in order to be divisible by 4.
New Equation: 2BCDE x 4 = EDCB2

Step 2: Solving E
Possible E: 3,8
Why: 3 and 8 are the only values that has a product ending of 2 when multiply by 4
Answer: E=8
Why: Only A=8 can satisfy the new equation from step 1.
New Equation: 2BCD8 x 4 = 8DCB2

Step 3: Solving B
Possible B: 0,1,2
Why: When 4 is multiplied by b, (0,1, and 2) are the only possible numbers in order to satisfy the new equation from step 2. (if 3, 4 x 3 = 12, 2 + 1(carry from 12) = 3 which is not equal to 8
Answer: B=1
Why: 8DCB2 must be divisible by 4. The divisibility rule for 4 is that the last 2 digits must be divisible by 4. Only B=1 can satisfy this statement which happened to be 12.
New Equation: 21CD8 x 4 = 8DC12

Step 4: Solving D
Possible D: 2,7
Why: The product of 4 and D plus 3 (carry from 4 x 8 = 32) must end in 1 to satisfy the new equation from step 3.
Answer: D=7
Why: D must be greater the or equal to 4. It will be prove when 4 is multiplied by B=1.
New Equation: 21C78 x 4 = 87C12

Step 5: Solving C
Possible C: 7,8,9
Why: 4 x C + 3 (carry from 4 x 7 + 3 = 31) must be greater than 30 - 39 in order to carry the 3 to be added to B to get 7.
Answer: D=9

Why: 9 is the only number that satisfy the equation.
Final Answer:   21978 x 4 = 87912

How to run Bit Error Rate Testing (BERT) in Cisco Router T1/E1 Controller

95% of my job as a network engineer is to troubleshoot WAN connections. One of the useful tool is using Bit Error Rate (BER) Tester to test the Layer 1 (Physical layer) and Layer 2 (Data Link layer) for any performance issues. Some Cisco router WAN implementation are using controller cards. This controller cards have built in functionality for BER testing. Thanks to my colleague Jack for the tip.

Here it is "the How To".

BERT Testing Using Cisco Router with Controller Card

1. To start BERT:

hostname#bert controller e1 0/1/0 pattern ?

0s All 0's test pattern
1in8 1-in-8 test pattern
1s All 1's test pattern
2047 2^11-1 test pattern
3in24 3-in-24 test pattern
511 2^9-1 511 test pattern
63 2^6-1 63 test pattern
alt-0-1 Alternating 0's and 1's test pattern
qrss 2^20-1 QRSS O.151 test pattern
qrw 2^15-1 QRW test pattern

hostname#bert controller e1 0/1/0 pattern 1s interval ?

<1-14400> Duration of BERT <1-14400> minutes

hostname#bert controller e1 0/1/0 pattern 1s interval 2

2. To display result:

hostname#sh controller e1 bert

E1 0/1/0 is up.

BERT is done on the controller. The result of last time is

DSX1 BERT status : done
DSX1 BERT pattern : 1s
DSX1 BERT sync count : 1
DSX1 BERT interval : 2 min
DSX1 BERT time remain : 0 min 0 sec
DSX1 BERT total errs : 0
DSX1 BERT total k bits: 231363
DSX1 BERT errors (last): 0
DSX1 BERT k bits (last): 231362

3. To stop BERT:

hostname#bert abort controller e1 0/1/0

Note:
For T1 circuits, use "t1" instead of "e1"

TOP 10 BIGGEST BRAIN DAMAGING HABITS

1.  No Breakfast
  • People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level.
  • This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.
2.  Overeating
  • It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power.
3.  Smoking
  • It causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.
4.  High Sugar consumption
  • Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.
5.  Air Pollution
  • The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body.
  • Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency.
6.  Sleep Deprivation
  • Sleep allows our brain to rest.
  • Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells.
7.  Head covered while sleeping
  • Sleeping with the head covered, increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain damaging effects.
8.  Working your brain during illness
  • Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as damage the brain.
9.  Lacking in stimulating thoughts
  • Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.
10.  Talking Rarely
  • Intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency of the brain.

Google AdSense Reports Terminologies Defined

I started to sign-up in AdSense several months ago without knowing its capability to earn money.  Now that I have started to love blogging, I am constantly visiting my AdSense account and I noticed that the Page Impressions  is increasing everytime I will add a blog entry.  So what are these terms/terminologies all about.  Below are the snapshot of my AdSense account and their definitions excerpted from Ask Dave Taylor.

Snapshot of my AdSense account

Terminologies Defined
  • Page Impression -- how many times the page or pages containing the AdSense advertisement was shown to visitors
  • Clicks -- the number of times someone actually clicked on an advertisement
  • Page CTR -- the resultant click-thru rate, as a percentage
  • Page eCPM -- the effective cost per thousand (M = mil, it's Latin) for your ad space.   This is a statistic that only a marketing person could love, so it's fine if you ignore it, but it can show you what ads / ad units are most valuable, particularly if you use channels
  • Your earnings -- no explanation needed. Bigger is better. :-)

Quit Trying to Please Everybody - Rick Warren

Inspiring Quotes in This Article:

  • It is dangerous to be concerned with what others think of you.
  • You cannot please everybody.
  • You don't have to please everybody in order to be happy in life.
  • Rejection will not ruin your life unless you let it.
  • God likes me, and I like me; if you don't like me, then you've got a problem.

The Article:

“It is dangerous to be concerned with what others think of you” (Proverbs 29:25 GN)

When we worry about what other people think, we let them control us. We waste a lot of time and energy trying to figure out what other people want us to be. Then, we waste a lot of time and energy trying to become like that rather than just being what God made us to be. You're manipulated and controlled by somebody else.

Worrying about what other people think is dangerous because we’re more likely to cave in to criticism. It means we don't always do the right thing; instead, we do the thing that everybody wants us to do.

And we’re in danger of missing God's best because we're so worried about what other people what us to do that we can't stop to think about what God wants us to do.

• Fact #1: You cannot please everybody. Even God can't please everybody. One person prays for it to rain; another prays for it to be sunny. In the Super Bowl, both teams are praying that they will win. Who is God going to answer? God can't please everybody. Only a fool would try to do what even God can't do. You can't please everybody.

• Fact #2: It's not necessary to please everybody. There is a myth that says you must be loved and approved by everybody in order to be happy. That's just not true. You don't have to please everybody in order to be happy in life.

• Fact #3: Rejection will not ruin your life. It hurts, sure. It's not fun. It's uncomfortable. But rejection will not ruin your life unless you let it.

Quit trying to please everybody! Remember that nobody can make you feel inferior unless you give them permission.

The Apostle Paul says, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31 TEV) This means we can think like this: ‘God likes me, and I like me; if you don't like me, then you've got a problem. If God likes me, who cares that everybody doesn't approve of everything I do.’

Remember, nothing you ever do will make God love you less. Nothing you ever do will make God love you more. He loves you completely right now.
